author’s note: So back in 2021 I started a High School/College AU in which Nikita was an international student in Paris and Michael was wrapping up his studies at the Sorbonne. Just like in the series, he was heavily involved in the student protest group L' Heure Sanguine and just like in the series, that group was headed down a very dangerous path that would result in the same deadly bombings that would lead to Michael's incarceration and recruitment into Section One. Except, what if he and Nikita crossed paths and became romantically involved? During this time he regularly lied to her about his increasingly violent protest activities because he knew that she wouldn't approve and wanted to shield her from it. That became the story I'm bare boned and crazy for you which was posted on April 2023 as part of the

smallfandombang. While noodling out the ending, I reached the conclusion that it was not going to have a happy ending. I started writing an epilogue that got pretty long. I eventually decided that it would now be its own story as well. It didn't take me long to realize that the sequel wasn't exactly going to have a happy ending either, so I started a third part to wrap up the fates of Michael and Nikita. There was a point where I was writing the three stories simultaneously. The sequel, a reminder of how we were was posted in two parts in August and October of 2023. I got distracted writing two very long stories on a deadline and the third part unfortunately stopped getting the attention it deserved...until today. I know that I kind of sound like a broken record, but this story was not supposed to be this long. I thought I'd be lucky if I cracked 10,000 words. It's longer, but it definitely leaves Michael and Nikita in a better and happier place.

author’s note: In reading LFN fic I repeatedly came across the concept of Michael going into "machine mode". It describes the very focused headspace that he enters during missions and how very methodical, indiscriminate, and detached he gets when the success of a mission is paramount. I rather liked how prevalent it became in a fandom. The show referred to Michael's approach as "primal", but I don't feel like "machine mode" was an inaccurate description of him. It did get me wondering about how something like that would play out. What if Michael was an actual machine. I started jotting things down for this story back in the fall of 2021, so not quite three years ago, but close. It was one of my rotating stories that I had open in the background. When I realized, that it had been idle for such a long time, a decided to commit it to the 13th round of the

The mood boards that are embedded within the story were created by the wonderful

pattrose. It was such a joy to work with her. Her selection of quotes was an absolutely inspired direction to go in. As I was slowly revising my draft of the story, I would often go back to her work to help me refocus on the themes of the story. I never expected them to be the asset they eventually became.

author’s note: This story was inspired by this lovely fanvid by vedavanda that interweaves clips of Peta Wilson's very glam Bally Fitness commercial with B-roll from an interview with Roy Dupuis where he's working on his boat. There are also clips of him with his cello. The worlds of both clips are so vastly different but they really work with this version of Hooverphonic's song "Vinegar & Salt", which heavily incorporates a cello. While I love reading AUs, I've never really considered myself someone who would even consider writing them. Once again LFN has proven me wrong. There was a point over a weekend where this story grew from a couple of hundred words to way over 10,000. That completely floored me and it also gave me the motivation to delve further into this world. It also has an obscene amount of smut. I'm almost a little embarrassed by it. Almost.

I'll admit that I haven't really watched season 5 all that much. Perhaps three times through when I first binged LFN in 2020. I did, however, remember Peta's performance early on in the episode when she tells Walter about meeting her father. She was so good in it and she perfectly convey's Nikita's state of mind as she's trying to process everything that she's just discovered. There's a mixture of disappointment, confusion, and anger on her face. He's "all business" is her assessment of Mr. Jones. That initial meeting didn't give her what she was looking for. It was definitely a highlight of the season for me.

Well, that "epilogue" got pretty long so I decided to make it a sequel. My first story wasn't done and I was already writing a sequel. Correction...I was already writing a third part because the sequel didn't have a happy ending either. And to think that this all started with the line "Did Madeline suggest you to stay away from me?" author’s note: This is the second part to my story from earlier in the year that touched upon what the conversation between Michael and Egan Petrosian would have looked like when he ordered Michael to go to Nikita. The "~~date~~" pimp session that Petrosian sets up between Michael and Nikita comes and goes pretty quickly in the episode, but it does touch on some pretty interesting character beats from the episode, namely Nikita's flirtation with the perks that Petrosian offers her and how Michael handles powerful women. I've always wondered what Michael and Nikita would talk about if he did stay for that drink. Michael's not exactly known for his small talk. And of course he stayed. There's no way he was going to humiliate Nikita by leaving.

author’s note: Do I need every single moment of Michael and Nikita's relationship depicted on the show? No, but I definitely would have preferred that a little more of their courtship be shown. I also didn't appreciate feeling like I blinked and missed something important when I saw the opening teaser to the season 3 episode "All Good Things." Michael, clearly naked and waking up in Nikita's bed. And I definitely would have liked to have seen a little more of what transpired as the opening teaser ended. This fan wants to see her OTP have some happy sexy times together. Someone show me Michael's moves damn it! So, that's what this is. Michael and Nikita completely glowy at the beginning of their relationship before the show throws all the obstacles in their way.

smallfandombang. I was just shy of the required 10,000 words when sign ups were going on and the timing convinced me to enter as a way to motivate myself to commit some real time to this story. I honestly thought this story would end up somewhere with a 20,000 word count. Color me surprised when it became the behemoth that it did. One of the major perks of participating in the bang is getting paired up with an artist to create art based on my story. I'm incredibly grateful for

author’s note: The scenario that Michael presented to Nikita about what her life would look like after his cancellation has always intrigued me. I really dug the whole Romeo and Juliet vibes that if one of them died, the other was going to do everything in their power to follow. The premise of how Section would try to console the survivor and reduce the effects of grief was really interesting.

And of course, there's Michael's scream when he realized that Nikita was the one Section was going to cancel. For me, it's one of the most powerful scenes in the entire series. So I got to thinking, “What if they just lied to Michael about Nikita being dead? Simone being alive was a real possibility and Section kept that information from Michael, so there is a precedent.

author’s note: This story serves two purposes. First, it's another entry in my ongoing series that fleshes out scenes that were originally scripted but then deleted after rewrites and therefore never filmed. The second is that it deals with the show's complete disregard for Michael's wife, Simone, in an episode that brought back the very organization that held her captive for three years. By doing that, they chose to bring back the a villain who was in the same room with her when she committed murder/suicide via explosion in season 1, but never addressed the possibility of Simone surviving as well. So yeah, the episode "I Remember Paris" is a frustrating episode on multiple levels. I hate that Michael goes through the entire episode without even flinching at the news that they're dealing with Glass Curtain when in the season one, the very mention of their name made him extremely tense and even volatile. This episode apparently went through some rewrites and its extremely disappointing that none of those rewrites had Michael address the possibility of his wife being alive. This is especially true considering that the very next episode begins with Michael waking up in Nikita's bed. Symbolically putting to rest the memory of Michael's wife as he begins a relationship with Nikita is narratively something that should have been addressed. ::shakes fist in air::

So was a later scene in which Nikita attempts to allay Michael's jealousy with a forceful kiss after he confronts he about shooting up heroin with Helmut in the middle of the night." This is sort of a companion piece to my other "Man in Middle" centered story "I am made of longing."

The story was inspired by an image of Geraint Wyn Davies from a 2006 episode of 24. He looked like an older, contemplative Nick looking outside the window of the loft.
