author’s note: Petrosian sends Michael to Nikita as a reward for her excellent service. So what was that conversation like? Michael is unfortunately no stranger to being pimped out by Section, but to have him sent to her so that he can "please" her is all kinds of messed up.

summary: "You have a well documented protectiveness towards your material.

“Nikita is infatuated with you.”

Michael says nothing in response to what is clearly an attempt to prod him. Egran Petrosian, tall and severe, stands before the vast window that overlooks Section One’s main base of activity. The Russian born former deep cover operative has fully entrenched himself in Section’s personnel files, if the panel he holds in his hand is any indication.

“You trained her, correct.”

“Yes.”

“She’s a very beautiful woman…desirable.”

Michael sighs internally at the topic of conversation. He doesn’t trust the ambitious Petrosian and he doesn’t trust that Nikita’s best interests are his foremost concern.

“Her beauty was one of the main motivators for her recruitment.”

It’s a truth that much to Michael’s dismay is documented front and center in Nikita’s file.

“Yes, if she’d been a bit more homely, she would have been left to rot in prison. Instead, she’s become a valuable asset to Section One…and…to me.”

Petrosian wasted no time in asserting his control over Section’s personnel. Michael has been kept in the field as of late, but in between missions, he has observed Nikita doing Petrosian’s bidding. He’s also heard poorly veiled disdainful whispers from other operatives about Nikita’s allegiances. Walter has been less than pleased with her as a result of it.

To say that Michael is troubled is putting it mildly.

“Her performance has been extraordinary. Everything that I have tasked her to do, she has done well.”

There’s a smugness that radiates off the other man.

“You called me here for a reason,” Michael states, wanting Petrosian to get to the point.

“Given Nikita’s exemplary performance with her new responsibilities, I wish to see her content…satisfied. A reward if you will. Given the nature of your relationship, I trust that won’t be difficult for you.”

Michael looks out of the aerie and tries to process the not so subtle request.

“I have read your file. You were previously married to another Section operative. That is most unusual. Operations and Madeline let the union continue rather than relocate one of you to some distant subsection.”

Michael looks at him blandly. He has no desire to discuss Simone nor his marriage to this man.

“Why?” Petrosian pushes.

“The marriage didn’t affect our performance.”

“Perhaps not, but they still let the insubordination go unpunished. That incident was also the first of several in which you let your emotions dictate your actions.”

It is then that Petrosian abandons any attempt to appear impartial and civil. His upper lip curls with the same amount of censure that he lobbied at him last year in Madeline’s office.

The unexpected sadness at losing his courageous ally Angie, the dull throbbing in his still healing wounds, and Nikita’s outrage at the Section’s callousness that not even he was immune to, had left him suddenly feeling very drained back then.

Thankfully, Egran Petrosian was long gone by the end of the day and his words became a distant memory…until now.

“It’s a miracle you’ve lasted as long as you have given those deficiencies.”

Petrosian gives him a critical once over. Michael doesn’t feel intimidated by the tactic and lhe et’s the other man conduct his appraisal.

“Now I wish to turn those deficiencies to my advantage. You have a well documented protectiveness towards your material.”

Petrosian smirks, as if he’s just come across the most salacious of Section gossip.

“You are to see to Nikita’s needs in whatever manner she sees appropriate,” He tells Michael decisively.

At the pit of his stomach grows a hard rock of tension. Michael is no stranger to exploiting Nikita’s feelings for him in the name of Section or more importantly, to save her life.

Now, having spent an entire night in her arms, discovering the treasures of her body, the idea of sleeping with Nikita with Petrosian’s blessing feels like a perversion.

It is a scenario that will destroy them both. A relationship with Section strings is no relationship at all, especially when Michael is not free to give himself fully to her.

“There are Section dictated circumstances that would make that difficult.”

“But not impossible. You speak, of course, of your blood cover. I more than anyone know the difficulties of maintaining a credible long term facade. However, if you are as good as your file claims you to be, I’m sure you can assuage your wife about a few more nights away from your marital bed. Surely the child she bore you can keep her occupied.”

That Petrosian knows about Adam and Elena and a mission as sensitive as his blood cover puts him on alert. He’s only been here under 36 hours and he’s already accessed information that is not pertinent to Section’s current caseload.

“Yes, Nikita has indeed been a revelation. She has far exceeded my expectations. Although there are a few places where she can still sharpen her talents. Tell me, given her beauty I am surprised that she has not been utilized more extensively as a Valentine operative. Her file is conspicuously spare in that area.”

And right there is the real reason behind Petrosian’s summons–Nikita’s lack of Valentine missions. Operations didn’t care as much about her status. He just wanted an efficient and obedient field operative. Petrosian looks at Nikita and he wants her to use her body to Section’s advantage.

“Nikita’s numbers have always been at their highest when she operates as a field operative.”

“Be that as it may, you did not think to fortify her where she’s weakest. It is after all to the benefit of Section One that such a beautiful operative can be called upon to serve in that capacity when necessary.”

“Of course.”

There’s nothing upcoming that would require more than the most minor of seduction scenarios. Nikita is already familiar with those, but depending on Operations’ survival and convalescence, Petrosian could very well go out of his way to profile a more Valentine heavy mission.

“I believe I shall take care of that oversight personally. Your judgment is clouded in that area and of little use to me.”

“Will that be all?” He asks, anxious to spend some time evaluating upcoming missions that might even remotely require a female Valentine operative..

“No,” Petrosian answers curtly. He redirects his attention back to the panel he holds in hand and spends several long seconds perusing the data.

Michael stands silently, awaiting further instructions.

Petrosian commands Section One, albeit temporarily. His opinions, while meritless, inform his decisions about a great number of vital Section elements.

It could mean the difference between a well supported mission and one expected to be successful with limited resources.

Michael will have to tread carefully as he negotiates his way through Petrosian’s handling of Section One.

“There is a restaurant on the Left Bank called Volare.” Petrosian begins, still reading through the panel. He places it on the counter and looks at Michael fully. “I need you there tonight…7 o’clock. I expect a favorable report in the morning.”

He once again gives Michael a smug and superior smile.

“You can go now.” Petrosian’s tone is clearly amused at the authority he has to dismiss him.

As Michael crosses the main floor of Section One, he takes in the changes that the new regime, as he’s heard it referenced, has brought forth. Everything is eerily quiet. Comm, normally a buzz of activity, is subdued. Ordnance is locked up tight. Operatives don’t linger in conversation anywhere.

Most importantly, long blonde hair, bright blue eyes, and a husky teasing laugh are nowhere to be found.

Section One, in its current state, feels like a tomb.

The two episode with Petrosian are the only ones I've watched from the series. Naturally I enjoyed your story. :) I think voice and description of Petrosian came across very well.
