Back in November Chiller aired a Forever Knight marathon. Lately that hasn't been very unusual for the channel but this time they dangled the promise of Geraint Wyn Davies hosting a marathon of his favorite episodes. Well hosting wasn't exactly what he did but the final product had a humorous execution.

There was a series of eight 30 second bits in which Ger spouted some trivia about the show. Sadly there was no new footage of Ger but the voice overs were done over these cheeky clips of the show with some lounge music thrown in. I personally really enjoyed them. I love how the colors of the series pop. It's so vibrant! I wish I could get those colors in my vids. My favorite is the last one that talks about the fans. The message was nice and clips used were great. Stonetree in Dark Knight: "A lot of people are going bananas about this vampire."

I promised to get them up, so as my very belated present here they are:

  • Three Official Novels: Ger talks about the three official Forever Knight novelizations. You can even see [livejournal.com profile] susanmgarrett's installment. (Yay!). "In the late 90s, three books were published based on our characters. That might sound like bragging. That's because it is. I'm bragging."
  • Nigel Bennett: "There are two ways to become immortal: Become a vampire or if you've got the brains--write a book."
  • Nick was fluent in love: "One of my favorite things about Forever Knight was the chance to travel into different time periods."
  • Ribena: "When I wasn't on screen trying to convince you I craved blood, I was off camera trying not to be sick."
  • The fully clothed version: "The European version was longer. Due to all the nude scenes. Sorry America. Maybe next time" No, Ger! You're perpetuating the myth that there was tons of nudity in the German cuts of the show.
  • Vampire eyes: "Glowing eyes can be found in cats, raccoons and of course actors who play vampires."
  • The art of flying: " The first time we attempted a flying scen, the crew hung me from a crane high above the ground. And as I hung there, suspended in the air, like some nerd a bully had hung on the back of a door. It occurred to me that I may loose some street cred."
  • Thank you fans!: "At different points in our history, we were almost canceled. And right before our blood was drained, our fans saved us with letter writing campaigns."

OK, so apparently Chiller has their own YouTube channel and uploaded the clips. I didn't need to upload my own. The links are to my uploads, except for the vampire eyes and the thank you fans. Check out the ChillerTV channel to get them in the highest quality possible. Also, while watching the marathon, they advertised the Chiller twitter feed. They don't have much up but two tweets are about the FK events they had.

The Chiller Blog has a nice and extensive interview with Ger.

There's lots of good stuff in it like Ger's introduction to directing, the Geminis, and how Ger originally got the role of Nick. I love this quote on the awful looking flying from the first season: "We had to develop our own goofy way of flying. In the first episodes, they hung me from a crane on a wire 80 feet above the ground and I'd be like a guppy trying to flap. It was really embarrassing."

And a there's also this little extra.

I'm not sure how the school photograph of the young boy in the upper left hand corner is related to Forever Knight but there it is. I thought it was pretty neat. The cover to [livejournal.com profile] susanmgarrett's Forever Knight book is included as well one of the other official FK novelizations. Nigel's collaborations with P.N. Elrod are here too. See it here.

A site called Sci-Fi TV Zone has a 12 minute audio interview with Geraint Wyn Davies.

In it he briefly discusses:
  • the format for his role in the Chiller Forever Knight marathon "it's casual and very tongue in cheek",
  • memories of the show "I remember laughing a lot" and "it was a joyful experience but it screwed up my sleep patterns for a couple of years",
  • his thoughts on Nick Knight "we invested a lot of humor in it as well as the hyper drama",
  • the shift in the show's tone in the 3rd season and how it affected the natural progression of Nick' character and the loss of John Kapelos and the Schanke character.
  • Classically trained actors and their ability to pull of vampires.
  • Recent but gone shows "one Canadian [Blood Ties] and one down here [Moonlight]" that took a page from the Forever Knight playbook,
  • The current vampire craze "That's what Forever Knight was, someone tossing a rock into the middle of the pond and now we're hitting the shore", and
  • his current Dylan Thomas one man play in NYC.

It was nice interview. I can't wait till Tuesday!

And lookey! The Smallville trailer for "Rabid" is the site's featured video. Yes the episode aired weeks ago but I really like it. Lois and Clark battle zombies!

So what's the best news a Forever Knight fan could get these days?

Aside from an announcement that the series DVDs were being re-released with the Canadian cuts of the first season and be jam packed with commentaries and bloopers of course.

Well how's this: Geraint Wyn Davies will be hosting a two day marathon on Chiller of his favorite episodes next week.

Mwah ha. The computer is mine once more! Even if I have to get up at 5am on a Sunday to get a turn.

Everyone at home is on vacation, except for me, so there's been little computer time for me. Some interesting things I've come across while catching up.

Murdoch Mysteries has been sold domestically and will air on select PBS stations starting June 30th .Yay! It's a fun show and hey lots of crossover fic potential with Forever Knight. Julia is a professional precursor to Natalie )

Being Erica has begun filming their 2nd season. More yay!

BBC America has announced the premiere date for Being Human. It will premiere on July 25th. I can't wait to check it out.

The full trailer for Torchwood: Children of Earth is up at BBC America. It premieres July 20th.

Vanity Fair has a wonderful pictorial in which actors are given three scenarios and a photograph is taken of them expressing the topic. They're all fantastic. )

I posted six reviews of Geraint Wyn Davies at [livejournal.com profile] geraint_fans  of his performance as King Duncan in the Stratford production of MacBeth. Colm Feore plays the title role.

Television Without Pity offers their suggestions on five kids properties to cross to the big screen along with casting recommendations. Sign me up for almost all of these. )

Television Without Pity also suggests 13 TV shows that should get a reboot. Reboots both scare and intrigue me. )

ChillerTV was having a mini marathon of Polgergeist: The Legacy later episodes last weekend. Forever Knight's Kristin Lehman (Urs) had already joined the cast. So that's where Michael Sadowski ended up. )

I watched the pilot episode of The Listener on NBC, the latest Canadian import. Unfortunately, it was a little on the drab side. Former Forever Knight writers on staff )

The New York Times has an article about Canadian TV and the current crop of foreign coproductions. The Newsroom and Slings & Arrows mentions )

The Smallville season 8 DVD cover will be Clark and Lois in front of the Daily Planet logo. Very pretty. They did their usual red and blue color scheme on the wardrobe even though it's not what they were wearing. It'll be released August 25th.

Warner Bros. has released the official trailer for Smallville season 8 on DVD and boy is that thing not only NOT advertising season 8 but )

And lastly, I came across the official White House Flickr account. Lots of great photographs.

I meant to post this earlier but the season finale of 24 was on tonight. (It was awesome by the way). I posted it earlier on forkni-l and fkfic-l too. Oops.

iFMagazine did an interview with Jon Cassar about the finale of 24 and the interviewer was kind enough to mention his involvement with Forever Knight. He mentions his friendship with Ger, who appeared as a baddie in the first half of 24's season 5. Apparently the plan was to bring in Nigel Bennett at one point but he didnt' have his U.S. work visa. First Gillian Anderson was approached for a role and now Nigel. Oh will the close calls never cease. Jon would love to see Nigel in a future season. Somebody make it so. Unfortunately, however, Jon will not be a part of 24 next season.

The full interview can be found here.

I was reading my Google News this morning when this headline from the Toronto Star jumped out at me.

Back in the summer of 1994 Geraint Wyn Davies and Catherine Disher joined other actors in a benefit performance of A. R. Gurney's Love Letters. About a year or so ago I posted over at forkni-l asking for information on the performance. Surely someone from the list must have attended and I was hoping they could share their memories. Unfortunately, if anyone had, they were no longer on the list.

The loss of the venue is extremely tragic but the show must go on. Articles state that plans are underway to continue with the theatre's 60th season.

For those interested, the Toronto Star article that mentioned Geraint Wyn Davies' and Catherine Disher's participation in the benefit is behind the cut.

Part One

There were some really nice comments about Ger on the DVD commentary but before we get to that...Where were we? )

Geraint Wyn Davies picspam time and it's a doozy! Today we're looking at 2002's American Psycho 2 in which Jackie from That 70's Show decides that no one is going to stop her from entering the FBI training academy at Quantico. No body

Cut for spoilers and the picspam )

abby82: (The Border--Mannering)
Both The Border and Murdoch Mysteries came out pretty well in the nominations department for the 23rd Annual Geminis, the highest honor in Canadian television.

The Border received 9, including Best Dramatic Series, Lead Actor, Supporting Actor, and Supporting Actress for Catherine Disher. That last one of course makes me very happy. I'm such a fan of Catherine Disher and I believe this will be her 5th nomination. She was nominated twice for her work as Natalie on Forever Knight, she won in 2004 for Snakes & Ladders and her first nomination was for her ultra adorable and hilarious turn in the TV movie Grand Larceny as a ditzy showgirl. If you haven't seen it you should track it down immediately.

Ben Bass who played Vachon on the final season of Forever Knight also scored a nomination for his work in the mini-series Would Be Kings as Best Lead Actor. I've heard lots of great things about this but I've yet to get my hands on it. This certainly is an incentive.

Murdoch Mysteries made out like gang busters with 14 nominations. They're well deserved. It's a highly enjoyable and unique show. Although I was disappointed that Geraint Wyn Davies didn't get any recognition for his role in either one of his two guest performances as Arthur Conan Doyle. GWD really makes me happy. Phooey!

It also would have been nice to have Ger and Catherine together in the same auditorium. They presented together back in 1993. [profile] kristin1228 has screengrabs up at KnightVision here.

Nigel Bennett didn't get a nomination either for his supporting work in The Border but for me it's not completely unexpected. At times his character is too much of a one dimensional bad guy and he really hasn't been given anything to work with. Hopefully during the upcoming second season this'll change.

All this reminds me how behind I am in screengrabbing The Border. At least the Maggie and Mannering scenes. I've meant to and I keep getting sidetracked. Bad me!

Edited to add: I forgot to mention that Erica Durance also received a nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series for I Me Wed.

It took a little longer than I expected but here is the second half of Geraint Wyn Davies' 2nd appearance on CTV's (Canada) Murdoch Mysteries.

abby82: (Default)

Geraint Wyn Davies recently reprised his role on Murdoch Mysteries as author Arthur Conan Doyle. Doyle makes a surprising return to Toronto with the intention of basing a new character on Murdoch and his revolutionary forensic techiques. His return coincides with a case involving a ventriloquist, the ventriloquist's dummy "Harcourt" and the man's murdered father. It's when Doyle begins to inquire about an old case involving a Chinese doctor and the doctor's fate` that Doyle's true and personal reason for returning comes to light..

I have the tendancy of going overboard with my capping and this episode is no exception.  So in the interest of keeping the images in the post to a reasonable amount I'm dividing it into two parts. The second part will be up in a couple of days.

But for now here are the first batch of images from the Murdoch Mysteries episode "Belly Speaker".

Ger as Arthur Conan Doyle returns! )

About a month ago I posted about Geraint Wyn Davies' guest appearance on Citytv's (Canada) Murdoch Mysteries as Arthur Conan Doyle. I've since been able to get my hands on the episode and I've capped a few scenes involving GWD. It was a highly enjoyable guest appearance and one that I just found out he's reprised. I got a hold of that episode too but I'm afraid (or not) that I've gone a bit overboard with capping so those caps won't be up till next weekend. Now that episode was creepy and hilarious and Ger got to play a wide range of emotions. It was a real treat. But more on that later. For now here are 20 or so caps from the Murdoch Mysteries episode "Elementary My Dear Murdoch".

Hee!

Geraint Wyn Davies as Arthur Conan Doyle in The Murdoch Mysteries

It looks like in between filming guest stints for the fourth season of ReGenesis, doing a theatrical run of The Elephant Man, and preparing for his role as Polonious in MacBeth in a return stint to the Stratford Festival, Ger has managed to fit in a guest stint on Citytv's The Murdoch Mysteries.
