Yikes, Tumblr!
Dec. 3rd, 2018 08:30 pmI'm on Tumblr. It's probably my most active fandom hangout, but I use the term active very loosely.
I mostly just reblog stuff, but it's a different experience from forums and livejournal. Sadly, it's never been a place that I've felt totally comfortable at. I don't know how to communicate with people. It's just so frustrating.
I remember some of the the Clark/Lois authors I liked from the Divine Intervention forum posting some of their stuff on Tumblr so I would occasionally pop in to see what was there.
When I saw the first Hunger Games movie and inhaled the trilogy of books I stalked several pages until I finally decided to create my own Tumblr.
When I was trying to find a song to vid my Silence of the Lambs festivids offering, I turned to Tumblr for inspiration.
When I fell down the Hannibal rabbit hole Tumblr was where it was it. The fandom thrived on Tumblr. The official NBCHannibal Tumblr was seriously one of the best official ambassadors I've ever seen. Fannibals weren't SuperWhoLock or the MCU but we didn't need to be. It was a nice slice of community.
I don't know where the fandom is going to go. Fanart is such an integral part of Hannibal fandom, moreso than any other fandom I've been in. To lose that segment of active members will be such a blow. I imagine that many will stick around. The Hannibal fandom isn't 100% nsfw art, but those same artists have other works that feed the community. I know there's a lot of talk about heading to Twitter. I have a Twitter and until recently it wasn't very fannish but I guess my relationship with Twitter may evolve if that's where the fandom fully settles.

Forever Knight festivid awesomeness!!!!!!
Jan. 14th, 2010 07:36 pmOMG! You guys!
festivids has gone live and I was gifted the most awesome of aweome Forever Knight vid.
Rush over there and give copious amounts of praise. It totally deserves it. I am over the moon excited and in love with this vid.
It's Forever Knight in all its beautiful glory, covering all three seasons. The music, "Cemeteries of London" by Coldplay is so hauntingly perfect. Spread the word fellow FK fans! Oh, I love my show! I love my vid! And I especially love that extremely talented vidder.
More later when I've recovered and gained control of my ability to formulate words.

Fall Fandom Free-For-All (2009)

To quote her, "This is a multifandom, all-fanworks, free-for-all! Basically, request any piece of fanwork you would like – fic, art, icons, video – in any fandom. In return, you offer to make something for someone else."
I'm a little late in pimping it out. It launched on September 16th and the deadline is November 18th. However, it's still not too late to participate. Take a look around. Maybe you can make a fellow fan's fannish day.
I didn't make any requests last year but I did create my first X-Files fanvid for

If anyone wants to make a fellow FK fan happy there is one request for Nick/Janette fic here.
Knightvision
Jun. 21st, 2009 03:36 pmAfter being out of commission for about a month,
kristin1228 's Forever Knight fansite KnightVision is back up.
That's great news! Her site is a great resource and it would have been a great loss to the community if it disappeared.

Geocities to close later this year
Apr. 25th, 2009 01:12 pmI was shocked but at the same time not to read that Yahoo will shutting down its free webhosting service Geocities later this year. Not too long ago AOL closed its free service and free services have been disappearing faster than the polar ice cap lately so I never assumed Geocities was safe. However, it is sad to see it go. So many fansites were hosted on Geocities and many still are. Sure the layout screamed early 90s but it served as a valuable resource for fandoms.

I didn't know Abby but if there is anything that has become clear as I went through my f-list and their f-list, is that she was truly a remarkable person who touched a lot of lives.
I first became familiar with Abby via the birthday Forever Knight fic she wrote

Just a small note: I'd intended for this post to be a quick, let me get my initial impression out before I was influenced by others. It was supposed to go up late Friday night but didn't. I'm now posting it with some additions after I've seen the movie a second time and the weekend tally has come out.
That's it, I couldn't wait till Saturday so I took the afternoon off from work and drove to the nearest theater to see XF:IWTB on Friday.
I arrived 30 minutes before the day's second showing and I was immediately distressed. I was the only one there. On one hand that meant prime seating selection but on the other hand it felt like I was the only one enthused about the movie. I immediately began texting my former college roommate to shake a metaphorical fist in the air over the injustice of people not giving Mulder and Scully the hearty welcome back they deserve.
Fandom Odds & Ends
Jul. 4th, 2008 01:35 pmI finished the first draft of my Forever Knight Schanke vid. Yay me! It clocks in at 3 minutes and 20 seconds although I see it fluctuating 10-15 seconds in either direction. I cut the song down from 5 minutes 56 seconds and while I'm OK with the way the song ends I'm gonna see if I can try splicing it so that I can incorporate the song's original ending. I really don't think it'll go well but I'll give it the ol' college try.
I've almost finished my second go at the Forever Knight Nick/Nat fic from
oxoniensis' porn battle back in January. Hopefully this time I don't leave my betas scratching their heads like I did back in February. And hey, the July porn battle is almost among us.
I was going through the print outs of all my in-the-works fic and surprise of surprises, it turns out that I wrote out a good chunk of my Journalism! Clark Smallville story but never included the additions to my computer file of the fic. What a pleasant surprise. Maybe there's hope for that fic yet.
Spoilers for season 8 of Smallville sound very promising, especially on the Clark front
Aren't they awesome? The promo comes courtesy of philater

This isn't really fandom but apparently an almost complete version of Fritz Lang's Metropolis has been found in an archive in Buenos Aires. With the exception of one scene the film is in its entirety. That's absolutely amazing and a wonderful discovery for all cinephiles.

Various and sundry
Apr. 13th, 2008 02:02 pmI've been away from the computer for a bit so I've been neglectful of the LJ and the comments which I do plan on getting to. I'm not ignoring anyone.
I finally have a much better title for my Forever Knight pre-series fic featuring a young Natalie and Richard Lambert.
I've managed to vid the opening 25 seconds for my Schanke Forever Knight fanvid.
The deadline to post my fandom pimp over at
smallfandomfest is fast approaching. I signed up back in February to pimp Forever Knight and I want to do the fandom justice.
I got an article printed in the local paper. It was really more PR than journalism. What wasn't in the article would make a good follow up story. My name wasn't attached to it even though my boss wanted for people to know that I wrote it.

I uploaded my first vid file online. The TV Guide Channel was running a special on returning favorites and they had a small segment featuring some behind the scene stuff for Smallville's 150th episode "Apocalypse".

I'm still having trouble posting to the FK Fan Fic Yahoo Group.
~~~~~~~I've been working on "Flight of the Imagination" again. I sent it out for beta back in mid February but boy did I get a shock to the system. Both betas were rather confused by it. I couldn't quite understand why until suddenly it hit me between the eyes.
This is one of those it's fun to do at periodic intervals, as the flist shifts.
1. Reply to this post, and I will pick four of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee!
I swiped this from
brightknightie, who invited me to play so here I go.
Vote! Vote! Vote!
Apr. 2nd, 2008 07:50 pmHow is this even a competition? I mean come on, really? Out of all the candidates in TV Guide's poll for Sexiest Sci-Fi Guy Tom Welling of Smallville is by far the best choice. And no I'm not just saying it because I'm a fan. Well, Jamie Bamber of Battlestar Galactica is a pretty good choice too. ::shrug:: The poll is open till Friday so do your fangirl duty and vote for Tom! And Erica too for Sexiest Sci-Fi Girl. I tend to be pretty apathetic towards these type of polls mainly because they invite division in fandom and the winner usually means that there's enthusiastic (i.e. ballot stuffing) fans behind it. However there's a potential TV Guide cover and/or photoshoot at stake and Clois fans haven't had one since Erica joined the cast in 2004. With Smallville going into its 8th and final season I doubt we're ever going to get one if it doesn't happen here.
