abby82: (Whoa!)
When it comes to new TV shows I tend to have this rule. I rarely watch a series in its first outing and it isn't until a second or third season that I check out shows that had struck me as interesting and have somehow managed to make it through the network television gauntlet.

The X-Files--middle of its 5th season.
Smallville--middle of its 5th season.
Supernatural--reruns of the 1st season in preparation for season 2.
Six Feet Under--3rd season
Ally McBeal--3rd season
Roswell--2nd season
Homicide: Life on the Streets--4th season
Gilmore Girls --6th season
Veronica Mars--3rd season

Of course there are exceptions to that rule. I was there for the very beginnings of Deadwood and Rome (both on HBO), Friday Night Lights on NBC, Millennium on Fox, and this season's Damages on FX. However as a general rule and as a means of protecting myself from getting too attached to a series that probably won't even make it past their 3rd episode, I generally choose to stay away. Sure I follow the media buzz surrounding those shows that I'm interested in but I always stay a safe distance away. Pre-launch buzz doesn't always translate into ratings. Can you say Bionic Woman, because I can.

However this season I deviated from the very plan that had always worked so well for me. My theory is that the shows that appealed to me reminded me of shows that are near and dear to my heart.

Fandom wise I keep adding things to my plate. I say I'm going to do something and then something else comes along and usurps it's position on my priority list. Twice I've had fic challenges distract me from my long festering stories. Now the upside is that the time restraints force me to actually produce something rather than let it fester but still. I feel like a neglectful mother.

So what I've decided to do is create a list of projects that can realistically be done. Therefore finishing my Forever Knight stories 'Things We Lost in the Fire' and 'Lives Interrupted' won't be included. My poor babies. Mamma just doesn't know how to make you behave.

Anyway, in no particular order...

Recent changes on the homefront means that we no longer have cable at home and instead have satellite. That mean no more CW or NBC and playing around with some bunny ears have given me little to no results. It looks like I'll be exploring alternative methods for acquiring Smalville, Supernatural, Gossip Girl, and Journeyman. I have yet to see "Cure" from Smallville and that makes me very sad.

Texas plays OU today so I'll post on Smallville later after my poor Longhorns lose...so sad...but first I already posted some thoughts on Moonlight's second episode elsewhere so I figured I'd elaborate on them here.

Ok so the second episode of Moonlight wasn't exactly the worst thing ever, it did improve over the pilot, but there are still things about it that annoy.

Moonlight the latest entry in the do-gooding vampire genre premiered last night. I had things to do so I programed the new DVD recorder to do its thing. And it did...on the wrong channel. Apparently it's gonna reair tonight but I chose to watch it on CBS.com and let's just say that the verdict on the pilot is less than stellar.

It's oh so appropriate that my first post ever should be about my growing by the minute dvd collection. Amazon.com is having another one of their sales and this time I couldn't resist the temptation. I blame it on my need to complete my Forever Knight Trilogy. Season 3 will soon be mine! There's only 3 in stock so yay to all the FK fans out there who are still supporting the Knight. Quantum Leap season 5--the final season--will also be in my clutches. Other than season 1 it's the only region 1 set from that series that has the original music intact so that decision wasn't a hard one to make. Ray Charles' "George on my Mind" is playing in the final scene as it should be and it hasn't been replaced. As for the other seasons, I'm going the region 2 route. Of course that will require a region free player which I don't have so that won't be anytime soon. Batman: The Animated Series season 2 has also been purchased. It's hard to believe that show is like 15 years old. The episodes hold up so well. That is the definitive Batman as far as I'm concerned.

Movies wise I finally got Frankenstein. It's got far better entertainment value than Dracula. There's something comical and profoundly sad about the scene between Frankenstein and the little girl by the water. I also got three Midnite Movie combos for a grand total of six movies there. One of them is the Karen Black remake of 'Invaders From Mars'. That movie seriously have me nightmares as a kid and I'm looking forward to seeing it again. I'm a little bummed that there weren't any decent vampire movies from the 1970s and no those Count Lorga movies don't count.

I also ordered She-Ra Princess of Power season 2 on deepdiscount by it's on back order so it's going to be a while before I get that one.

Saw a pretty good promo for CBS' Moonlight show. It made the show look pretty good to the point that I want the show to last more than one season. Why do I feel like I'm cheating on Forever Knight by feeling that way?
