abby82: (LFN-Nikita/Michael)
I haven’t completed a vid since 2016. Before that, my last vids were in 2014 and 2013.

That being said, I now have a very solid first draft of a Michael/Nikita La Femme Nikita vid.

I’m so, so excited. If I absolutely needed to post today, I wouldn’t be embarrassed by it, but I would be disappointed at the missed opportunity to really get it right. I’m very happy with the first third and the second third needs some fine tuning. The last third hits a lot of the emotional beats I’m looking for but the clips need to be played with some more.

Oddly enough, the vid went in a slightly different direction from what I originally intended. It does lean rather hard on the season 4 ending that many fans didn’t like. I guess when you vid to Lana Del Rey you gotta embrace the highest highs of a relationship and the cynical lows.

I’m hoping I can get the vid ready by late July/early August. That would coincide with the one year anniversary of me falling head over heels for this 20+ year old show.

It's a soft deadline to mark the occasion but I want to post the vid or one of the La Femme Nikita fics I’ve been working on. Two are really close to having complete first drafts.

The only vid I made last year that didn't involve Forever Knight was for [livejournal.com profile] festivids . I made The Neverending Story vid "Le Disko" for boom_queen. You can find my vid announcement here.

I had it as a private post that is now public. It doesn't seem to be popping up on my f-list. It might have something to do with my recent LJ problems.

The vid made for me "Cemeteries of London" was made by giandujakiss. I had my suspicions namely because she did a wonderful Janette vid a few years back called "Not an Addict" that I completely fell in love with (and inspired me to try my hand at vidding).

ETA: giandujakiss has made her post for "Cemeteries of London" public here. She offers a big and shiny version of the vid for download as well as a more modestly sized one. Also, available are streams on vimeo (which caused problems for some) and an additional one for BAM.

I'm going to try this again but much shorter this time around. It serves me right for not finishing the meme and posting at the end of the year.

Hey all!

I finished the first draft of my [livejournal.com profile] festivids entry.

::pumps fist in air::

I'm sure my entire household is probably sick of its song, but anyhoo. All this means my self-imposed removal from almost all things fandom (I'm doing Forever Knight recs over at [livejournal.com profile] crack_van ) is over.

Posting will commence soon. Oh, and Happy New Year!

weeeeeeeeeeee!

Dear Festvidder:

You are awesome. No really, you are awesome. Thank you for signing up to do this. I love my fandoms and to think that there's someone out there who enjoys one, two or all of them and is capable of vidding them fills me with so much joy. I'm very easy to please and simple things make me happy.. I don't need a lot of bells and whistles so please don't stress out on my account. Have fun. Heck, if you wanted to slap together some clips over some music and call it a day I'd be happy with that too. My suggestions are not set in stone. They are merely guidelines. Go where ever the muse takes you, even if it's the complete opposite of what I suggest. Again, I don't want you to stress out.

Here be fandoms )
abby82: (FK--Nick)
According to the Forever Knight wiki Nick Knight (the original backdoor pilot) first aired on CBS on August 20, 1989. It was a Sunday. Twenty years huh.

There's still a few days to go but I do want to do something to mark the occasion. After all, without Nick Knight there would be no Forever Knight.

I'm working on a short celebratory/movie recap vid. If I didn't already love this version of Alyce Hunter I would after working on this vid. Her awesomeness doesn't really come through in the vid, as of now, which is a shame but she cracks me up.

My still relatively new external hard drive has decided to kick the bucket...sort of.

Feeling a bit icky this morning so I called in sick. However now I'm feeling better (medicine finally kicked in) so I'll be heading in after lunch.

24 was all kinds of awesome last night, especially the second hour. It's been a great season but last night really upped the stakes. Can't wait for the next episode.

"Infamous" still were finally released and they are gorgeous. They're up at K-site. This one is my favorite. I'm so getting an icon once the episode passes. I don't want in inadvertedly spoil someone. The sunlight streaming in behind Clark is amazing.
Cut for spoilerly SV pic )

Drive by vid rec for [livejournal.com profile] kiki_miserychic's SGA vid Fiddle and the Drum. Stunning doesn't even begin to describe it..the song selection, the editing, the clips used. I don't even watch SGA but this vid is just so captivating that I want to know more. It's a John Shepherd character vid. Breathtaking.

So after watching that vid I'm even more tempted to set my Nick/Nat vid aside yet again in favor of a Nick vid. Not the Moby song vid but perhaps Johnny Cash or even the Mirah song but I won't. After the intenseness of Burn I need happiness and fun and that's Nick/Nat not Nick contemplating his "beast" or all the people he lost. That's a major downer.

Therefore I'm spending the rest of my morning clipping season 2 Nick/Nat cuteness. Then it's off to work.

Headed to Austin on Wednesday for a conference. Back on Saturday.

Sent off Tracy Vetter POV fic for beta.

A conversation at Knight Vision has led to inspiration for a long dormant and fluffy Nick/Nat friendship ficlet.

Temporarily set aside Nick/Nat vid in favor of a Divia vid.

After stomping on my heart Smallville lures me back with promises of Cloisy goodness for its next episode. Is it March 12th yet?

First draft of my Janette vid is now complete. Yay me! Although I do keep going over my clips and I'm like, "There has got to be more Janette clips. Where are they all hiding?" I'll need to go over my notes and see if I missed anything. I'd love to get this one up before the end of the year but I guess we'll see.

Next up will be a Nick/Nat friendship vid to The Rapture's "Pieces of the People We Love". The track is great fun. It's extremely catchy and delightfully wordy.

And lastly, I've yet to really vid Nick (for shame! Lead character...hello!) and while I've got about 5 songs earmarked as possibles for him it looks like Moby's "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad" will win out. I hadn't heard Moby in a long time and the song popped up today during my mp3 player's random setting. The other songs are great but I think this one will be a nice way to vid him. Lyrics are sparse and the music (piano, electronic beats and some fantastic Gospel choir vocal tracks) really lend themselves towards a Nick and his journey vid.

I've got a Forever Knight fic for the [livejournal.com profile] galpalficathon in the works called "Rogue Vampire". The deadline is this Sunday so I'm really going to have to hop into overdrive so that it's somewhat presentable by then. I do like the progress I've made so it should be ready.

My Forever Knight [livejournal.com profile] oldschoolfic Cohen story "Twenty Five Minutes" still needs to be tweaked before it makes an appearance at fkfic-l. I have looked at since it was first posted at the ficathon but not as seriously as I should. It works as it is but I do feel like its missing something that's identifiable as FK.  The problem lies in that Cohen could easily be replaced by some random named individual and it really wouldn't make much difference.

I've also committed myself to absolutely finishing my Tracy POV Forever Knight fic. It needs to be up by the end of the year. It's a self-imposed deadline.

I've been laying down some early exchanges for a Forever Knight/The Border crossover that I first thought about earlier in the year. It's really more of a Border story but the presence of Forever Knight's elements should be felt. I'm working mostly through Maggie's thought processes since it is through her POV but I do need to think about the character of Moose and his history as former Toronto PD.

I've got an AU X-Files fic called "An Affair Together" based on a prompt from the [livejournal.com profile] xf_pornbattle  in the works. I don't know when it'll see the light of day but right now it's one of the fics that gets worked on regularly.

I just heard a lovely song by A Fine Frenzy called "Almost Lover" that's giving me some Tracy/Vachon vibes. I need to listen to it about twenty thousand more times but I think the first verse, which is just over 1:30, could really lend itself to a post-"Ashes to Ashes" vidlet in which Tracy believes that Vachon skipped town.

I haven't been posting on Smallville but it's been all kinds of awesome. All the characters are really working wonderfully. Yeah Clark's entrance into the Daily Planet is kinda wonky but I love what the new showrunners are doing. You can see the show and the characters transitioning nicely into Superman.  And Lois...what's there to say about Lois that hasn't been said. Amazing barely captures her and what Erica Durance is doing.

Friday Night Lights is so utterly perfect that it's crazy. For me it's almost surpassing the brilliance of the first season which is pretty damn amazing in and of itself. I watch an episode and I feel like no time has gone by. The credits roll and I'm thinking, "What already?" and sure enough 45 minutes have gone by and I didn't even feel them. I'm that enthralled in the storytelling of this show. It's absolute brilliance.

And on the real life side... )

abby82: (Mulder & Scully--young)
Over the weekend I came across The Fandom Free For All that is being organized by [livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis  and [livejournal.com profile] pheebs1 . The concept behind it is brilliant. You post a wish list of any type of fanwork for yourself and in return you offer to create something off of someone else's list.

I don't know if I'm going to post anything but while perusing the list I came across a request by [livejournal.com profile] juniperphoenix  that caught my eye. She's asking for an X-Files fanvid that is focused on the UFO/abduction/Samantha theme and set to the tune of Sarah McLachlan's cover of "The Rainbow Connection". It's an interesting song choice and after hearing that particular rendition of it I'm struck by how perfect it is for the subject matter. It's very much a lullaby and the idea of using it juxtaposed with the imagery of the Samantha abduction arc is extremely tempting.

Over 9 seasons X-Files has had some unforgettable imagery but the thought of vidding it is daunting. The furthest I've ever gotten is setting aside a song that I feel is perfect for the Mulder and Scully dynamic. However that being said, [livejournal.com profile] juniperphoenix 's request seems like a great opportunity to give it a shot. Footage wise the Samantha arc is quite manageable. So manageable that I was able to rip and clip the series' Samantha scenes and some additional UFO/aliens stuff in one evening. Through it all I keep coming back to the flashback scene from "The Blessing Way" that showed the aliens in the box car being gassed to death and the flashback scene from "One Son" in which the Syndicate present a folded U.S. flag to an envoy of grays. Those scenes are visually stunning.

I haven't officially spoken up regarding my intentions to vid the request but it's something that I'll have on reserve. The deadline isn't till October 29th and I've got another fannish deadline looming that takes priority. Besides, I've only got a very loose concept for the vid. Until then I continue to play the song in a continuous loop to get the creative juices flowing.

abby82: (I approve!)
I finished the first draft of my Forever Knight Schanke vid. Yay me! It clocks in at 3 minutes and 20 seconds although I see it fluctuating 10-15 seconds in either direction. I cut the song down from 5 minutes 56 seconds and while I'm OK with the way the song ends I'm gonna see if I can try splicing it so that I can incorporate the song's original ending. I really don't think it'll go well but I'll give it the ol' college try.

~~~~
I've almost finished my second go at the Forever Knight Nick/Nat fic from [personal profile] oxoniensis' porn battle back in January. Hopefully this time I don't leave my betas scratching their heads like I did back in February. And hey, the July porn battle is almost among us.
~~~

I was going through the print outs of all my in-the-works fic and surprise of surprises, it turns out that I wrote out a good chunk of my Journalism! Clark Smallville story but never included the additions to my computer file of the fic. What a pleasant surprise. Maybe there's hope for that fic yet.

~~~
Spoilers for season 8 of Smallville sound very promising, especially on the Clark front
~~~

Aren't they awesome? The promo comes courtesy of philater

This isn't really fandom but apparently an almost complete version of Fritz Lang's Metropolis has been found in an archive in Buenos Aires. With the exception of one scene the film is in its entirety. That's absolutely amazing and a wonderful discovery for all cinephiles.

Oh crud!

abby82: (Whoa!)
I didn't think it would happen this soon but apparently the 1Tetrabyte external hard drive I bought back in late March is now full.

abby82: (Default)

The DVD release date for Life has been set for September 2. This sucker is totally priced to own with a SRP of $29.98 so I'm figuring a store price of around $25. Perhaps the price per episode comes out a bit high but if I enjoy this show as much as I'm anticipating who cares. Hopefully all the music remains intact but with its low SRP I have my doubts.  Hopefully they're unfounded because one of the biggest selling points for me about Life is its killer soundtrack.

~~~~~~~
The DVD release date for Smallville season 7 has been set for the following week on September 9th. I'm both excited and scared for that release. There are certain episodes that I'm very excited to see but I'm really not looking forward to the Lois/Grant story arc that pretty much went no where and has given Lois naysayers yet another reason to trash her. I understand what it's purpose was for but from what I gather from other fans the execution was quite lacking.
~~~~~~~~

The season 2 DVDs of Torchwood have also been announced for September 16. Nice cover but way out of my price range. It's the same reason why I haven't even thought about purchasing the 1st season, which I've yet to watch. I've enjoyed the show but not enough to pay that much for 13 episodes.

abby82: (Whoa!)
I've been away from the computer for a bit so I've been neglectful of the LJ and the comments which I do plan on getting to. I'm not ignoring anyone.

~~~~~~~~~
I uploaded my first vid file online. The TV Guide Channel was running a special on returning favorites and they had a small segment featuring some behind the scene stuff for Smallville's 150th episode "Apocalypse".
~~~~~~~~

I finally have a much better title for my Forever Knight pre-series fic featuring a young Natalie and Richard Lambert.

~~~~~~~~~
I've managed to vid the opening 25 seconds for my Schanke Forever Knight fanvid.
~~~~~~~~~~~

The deadline to post my fandom pimp over at [community profile] smallfandomfest is fast approaching. I signed up back in February to pimp Forever Knight and I want to do the fandom justice.

~~~~~~~~~
I'm still having trouble posting to the FK Fan Fic Yahoo Group.
~~~~~~~

I've been working on "Flight of the Imagination" again. I sent it out for beta back in mid February but boy did I get a shock to the system. Both betas were rather confused by it. I couldn't quite understand why until suddenly it hit me between the eyes.
~~~~~~~
I got an article printed in the local paper. It was really more PR than journalism. What wasn't in the article  would make a good follow up story. My name wasn't attached to it even though my boss wanted for people to know that I wrote it.
abby82: (Nick & Nat)
I just gotta say that I am having so much fun working on my first ever fanvid. It's probably going to be a total trainwreck but right now I really don't care. I'm not even half way done in clipping but for fun I threw down some of the miniclips I extracted from the larger clips onto the sceneline of Premiere Elements. I'm still a wet behind the ears newbie so I mostly wanted to tinker around with it and get a feel for it before I get done clipping but I seriously laughed out loud. Oh Schanke!
I went into this thing thinking "OK a Schanke vid and it has to be fun," but that was basically it. Now in watching what clips I do have I'm starting to get an idea of what I want the theme of the vid to be. I'm either gonna call it "Don Schanke: International Man of Mystery" or "The Ego and the Id" which is the title I'm mostly leaning towards. Oh and it's to the tune of the remixed version of Fatboy Slim's "Rockafella Skank". Since it's like 6 minutes long I have cut it down to somewhere between 2 1/2 and 3 minutes but that's no big deal.
I just like how it's shaping up and I've only clipped about 10 of the 26 episodes I've earmarked. There are plenty of nuggets still awaiting like "Partners of the Month" but right now "Hunters" and "Dead Issue" are huge sources of amusement as is "For I Have Sinned". Schanke in the Raven is definitely the Id portion of the vid.
Heck I even got Nick in there doing his  quasi celebratory dance at from the tag in "Dead Issue" at the precinct picnic. "Schanke's Scorchers"
Once I actually get into editing for effectiveness and trimming the clips even more I'll probably be pounding my head against the wall but hey that's part of the fun isn't it.
abby82: (Default)
So a few days ago I was lamenting on what appeared to be a major dearth in Forever Knight videos. I noted that [profile] kristin1228 looked to be the only person out there currently making videos for the fandom. For the most part I still think it's true but not long after writing that post I stumbled upon the most awesomest of awesome FK video and I couldn't help but just sit there and grin like an idiot. And of course watch it over and over again.
Now I've always enjoyed the trinity of Nick, Janette and LaCroix.  It's a great balance and contrast to the Nick, Natalie, Schanke trio but as I watch the video for the umpteenth time I can't help thinking to myself, "Boy are these three beautiful together."
