abby82: (Erica says thumbs up)
Well look what's finally getting that follow up movie we were promised oh 12 years ago.

When Deadwood ended in 2006 after a three year run, HBO execs suggested that the series could continue in a pair of HBO movies to wrap the story up. Well, nothing ever materialized, that is until the current television landscape entered into revival fever. Then, there was talk of a script being commissioned, then it actually existed, and then interviews with former cast members spoke of them having read said script.

Monday brought some unexpectedly happy news. A Deadwood movie set 10 or so years after the series is already in production and all the original cast is back. Huzzah!

This is now the third of TV shows that I care about to be revived.

The X-Files ended in 2002 and came back in 2008 with The X-Files: I Want to Believe feature film. A revival was launched in 2016 and ran for two seasons. It was off the air for 6 years before the movie premiered and 8 years passed between the movie and revival.

Gilmore Girls ended in 2007 and came back in 2016 for Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. It was off the air for 9 years.

Deadwood ended in 2006 and the revival movie will air in 2019. It will have been off the air for 13 years.

And because I can't talk about reviving cancelled tv shows without bringing up Hannibal. It's been off the air since 2015. That 3 1/2 years and counting.
abby82: (GG-Luke's sign)
Ahoy!

I just wanted to drop in quickly and mention that I am in fact alive. A huge hole has not opened up beneath me and swallowed me up.

Unfortunately, my brother has rediscovered his affinity for Everquest. That means my computer is pretty much always occupied by someone other than me.

In the meantime, a random viewing of Gilmore Girls on SoapNet has prompted me to crack open the complete series DVD set that was residing on my DVD shelf. I started with seasons 5-7 than skipped back to season 4, then 3. I finished season 1 yesterday and I'll probably get in an episode or two of season 2 tonight.

Why not start with season 1 and then work my way through 7, some of you may wonder? Well, I've always been quite fond of Luke and Lorelai and they really don't get into full swing until the later half of the series. Now I'm completely and insanely shipping them. Fic must be sought out but not now.  My [livejournal.com profile] fkficfest  prompt of choice has been bouncing around in my head, and I've got a recipient I definitely don't want to disappoint.
abby82: (I approve!)

So for a few weeks I've had this post I was preparing full of vid recs for tons of fandoms. It had links and lots of commentary on why I loved them. It was under the saved draft thing that LJ does. But last week I had a total brain lapse and when I was prompted on whether I wanted to retrieve the draft I pressed cancel instead of yes. Doh! Sometimes I copy/paste the text onto a text document just in case but apparently I didn't in this case.

So this time around to avoid any accidental stupidity on my part I'm simply going to post this list of Vividcon recs and I'll add thoughts later on.

I've compiled this list from the helpful postings at the [community profile] vividcon community.

Drive by posting to give a major shout out to the participants of [community profile] femme_fic's "We Love Female Characters" ficathon.

I haven't had time to read a single story but I did quickly skim through the entries and there's a lot to pick from. On the Forever Knight front there are not one but two entries. How about that! That's awesome.

[personal profile] havocthecat has written a story centered around Natalie and Janette. Any story that gives Natalie and Janette dialog together is a winner but to have such a talented writer behind it makes it all the better. And it's set during the oh so great 1st season to boot.

[personal profile] brightknightie has delivered what is sure to be an outstanding piece of writing for Fleur and LaCroix. There's no one more skilled for these two characters  Hello! Amy wrote Fireweed. Need I say more.
