I hadn't quite considered a full sequel to this story, but I did I feel like the epilogue left much to be desired. I was fine with it overall but I felt like something was missing.
When I was writing the story I did wonder a little about Marc, Nikita's old boyfriend. I kinda felt bad for the guy so at the time I did entertain the idea of them clearing the air, especially now that Michael was back in the picture. I figured that if I ever wrote it, then it and other entries might end up a series of individually posted scenes in this universe and not necessarily a full blown sequel. It would give me some flexibility to jump around as the muse strikes.
With that being said, I saw your post last night and slept on it. This morning I did jot down some Michael and Nikita conversations about some of the issues that are present but mostly in the background for them. Yes, they're in love but there are still things they need to address as a couple.
Would Nikita eventually consider leaving Montreal to be closer to Michael? Would Michael move things around at Oversight so that Montreal was his new home base? It's the same issue that came up with Marc and a topic of conversation for a lot of couple...relocation for love and/or work. This is a life that Nikita has carved out for herself, independent of everything. Is it regressing if she gives it up for Michael or is it a part of evolving now that she's in a relationship that gives her more than her "ordinary" relationship with Marc?
As much as Nikita has became a part of the "normal" world, there is still a part of her that can only be shared with Michael. Should she resent that or accept it? There's also the imbalance that Michael still can't share much of his work life. The strings that allow them to be together are very loose but they're still there.
Then there's the question of children. Are they an option? Should they be an option? Does Centre have any say on the matter if it happens?
Michael and Nikita are happy and they're growing together nicely, but there are still issues.
For now, these snippets are gonna live in my drafts folder until they're ready for their closeup, but it does look promising. When I feel stuck on a story that I'm actively working on, I open up my drafts page and start working on the snippets that I've got there. Honestly, a lot of the stories I've posted recently, originated there in some form while my longer term stories keep getting pushed back. My poor Android!AU is so neglected because of that, lol.
Again, thanks so much for asking. I can't always guarantee that something will materialize, but I love hearing about what people would love to read. It's a big motivator to know that for sure there's an audience of that story.
Also, PSA my high school/university AU "i'm bare boned and crazy for you" will finally be posted on April 10th. It's 59,000 words of young love, secrets, L'Heure Sanguine, Paris, angst, etc. I'm so excited. I got paired up with an artist who's going to do some digital art, so the fandom will also get some new LFN art out of this. I'm also cleaning up my playlist for this story so that I can post it as a fanmix to accompany it. Have I mentioned how excited it am? :-P
