Ownership lies elsewhere. author's note: Sympathy for the Devil is not a great episode, but there are elements in it that I really enjoyed. It's also not the most shipper friendly episode, but I would argue that it's important in that it's the only episode that attempts to explain Nikita's emotional distance in the wake of the Gelman arc. That distance permeates over the first 8 episodes of the season. It's an interesting period. Michael and Nikita are essentially together. They're doing an undercover assignment where they're living together as a couple and are not under Section surveillance. Yet Nikita's growing emotional detachment is very present. I just can't get over how awkward it must have been while they were living in that apartment. How much affection does Michael allow himself to show? How does Nikita gracefully sidestep Michael's advances? Or do they just stick to their respective corners and eliminate the personal element while they're there? To top it all off, the reward for accomplishing the mission is fifteen days to be alone together. Fifteen days that undoubtedly could be more of the same awkwardness they were already experiencing. It's so heartbreaking. Ugh, the angst! I love it! Also, this one had a really quick turn around. Three days of writing and then a few more to tweak it here and there. Yay for my first La Femme Nikita fic!
