The Border , which costars Catherine Disher and features Nigel Bennett as a recurring character, is coming to the U.S.

ION, a satellite and cable channel, has acquired the rights to air the series later in season 9. They were on my "no fun" list because they yanked Quantum Leap reruns just months after I found them there and this goes far at winning me back.

If you have DirectTV or Comcast then you should have ION.

This is fantastic news. Yes I have some very shiny DVDs in my possession but this is awesome for those who wanted to wanted and had to either wait or resort to other needs. ::cough:: like I sometime do.

Press Release is here. I was slightly annoyed that they mentioned Catherine Disher in relation to X-Men and not Forever Knight. hmph

*****

In other news, Smallville just got a season 9 pick up. Season 9! There's no mention of Tom Welling signing and while one would assume that there would be no Smallville without Clark you never know with the CW monkeys. The man deserves a producer title. There are no ifs or buts about it. And lastly, if Erica Durance does not receive a full season increase in episodes there will be hell to pay. She's been a 13 episodes per season gal since she started back in season 4. In what is sure to be the final season they simply cannot have Lois Lane and do her character justice with only half the amount of episodes.

Headed to Austin on Wednesday for a conference. Back on Saturday.

Sent off Tracy Vetter POV fic for beta.

A conversation at Knight Vision has led to inspiration for a long dormant and fluffy Nick/Nat friendship ficlet.

Temporarily set aside Nick/Nat vid in favor of a Divia vid.

After stomping on my heart Smallville lures me back with promises of Cloisy goodness for its next episode. Is it March 12th yet?

Twisting The Twilight Zone 2009 Challenge

I saw this via the [livejournal.com profile] sv_ledger and it looks interesting. It's a multifandom challenge in which the titles and/or synopsis from Twilight Zone episodes are used as prompts. They're accepting a wide range of entires from fic to vids to art. Deadline to sign up is February 28th and posting closes on March 21st.

There's no limit on fic length or on the number of entries. There are over 100 titles to choose from and titles can be used by more than one person.

There's a part of me that wants to participate. Nothing in the rules states that the fic has to be Twilight Zone-esque but if I play I would prefer to go that route and do something a bit off kilter. Mustangsally and [livejournal.com profile] rivkat's X-Files fic Tikkun Olam, which is a real trip, comes to mind, as does the Smallville episode "Labyrinth" and Forever Knight's "Curiouser and Curiouser".  Actually, all of Nick's dream sequences on FK come to mind. LaCroix as the short order cook from hell anyone? And one of the titles lends itself to a story set in the "Curiouser and Curiouser" alternate reality. Hmm, something to ponder.

abby82: (happy)
I've got a Forever Knight fic for the [livejournal.com profile] galpalficathon in the works called "Rogue Vampire". The deadline is this Sunday so I'm really going to have to hop into overdrive so that it's somewhat presentable by then. I do like the progress I've made so it should be ready.

My Forever Knight [livejournal.com profile] oldschoolfic Cohen story "Twenty Five Minutes" still needs to be tweaked before it makes an appearance at fkfic-l. I have looked at since it was first posted at the ficathon but not as seriously as I should. It works as it is but I do feel like its missing something that's identifiable as FK.  The problem lies in that Cohen could easily be replaced by some random named individual and it really wouldn't make much difference.

I've also committed myself to absolutely finishing my Tracy POV Forever Knight fic. It needs to be up by the end of the year. It's a self-imposed deadline.

I've been laying down some early exchanges for a Forever Knight/The Border crossover that I first thought about earlier in the year. It's really more of a Border story but the presence of Forever Knight's elements should be felt. I'm working mostly through Maggie's thought processes since it is through her POV but I do need to think about the character of Moose and his history as former Toronto PD.

I've got an AU X-Files fic called "An Affair Together" based on a prompt from the [livejournal.com profile] xf_pornbattle  in the works. I don't know when it'll see the light of day but right now it's one of the fics that gets worked on regularly.

I just heard a lovely song by A Fine Frenzy called "Almost Lover" that's giving me some Tracy/Vachon vibes. I need to listen to it about twenty thousand more times but I think the first verse, which is just over 1:30, could really lend itself to a post-"Ashes to Ashes" vidlet in which Tracy believes that Vachon skipped town.

I haven't been posting on Smallville but it's been all kinds of awesome. All the characters are really working wonderfully. Yeah Clark's entrance into the Daily Planet is kinda wonky but I love what the new showrunners are doing. You can see the show and the characters transitioning nicely into Superman.  And Lois...what's there to say about Lois that hasn't been said. Amazing barely captures her and what Erica Durance is doing.

Friday Night Lights is so utterly perfect that it's crazy. For me it's almost surpassing the brilliance of the first season which is pretty damn amazing in and of itself. I watch an episode and I feel like no time has gone by. The credits roll and I'm thinking, "What already?" and sure enough 45 minutes have gone by and I didn't even feel them. I'm that enthralled in the storytelling of this show. It's absolute brilliance.

And on the real life side... )

Snagged from everywhere, in honor of Smallville's season 8 premiere.

When you see this, post a Smallville quote on your LJ.

Deleted scene from season 4's "Gone"

LOIS: Well you still could have left us some kinda clue to let us know you were alive.

CLARK: Like what bread crumbs?

LOIS: For those of us who have moved beyond story hour I was thinking something more like an email.

CLARK: Is that right?

LOIS: Yeah.

CHLOE: Exactly how much time have you two been spending together.

LOIS & CLARK: Too much

abby82: (Smallville--Lois & Clark)
The CW has finally decided to release stills from upcoming Smallville episodes and among them are these utterly fantastic stills from the season's second episode. The first one is my favorite.

Cut for spoilery awesomness )

Full credit goes to [livejournal.com profile] andreas_ri . More goodies can be found at her journal.

Erica Durance looks amazing. The hair. The makeup. Everything, and Tom Welling...oh Tom. I can't wait for this season to start. Spoilers have been so promising and if the Lois/Clark images are any indication, it's going to be a fine time to be a Lois and Clark fan.
~~~
An yeah, I read about David Duchovny. I hope everything works out for the best. Following the work of favorite actors is one thing but there comes a time when as a fan one has to say, "Ok, this is where I draw the line". Public statement aside, this is a private and sensative matter and should be treated as such.
abby82: (I approve!)
So for a few weeks I've had this post I was preparing full of vid recs for tons of fandoms. It had links and lots of commentary on why I loved them. It was under the saved draft thing that LJ does. But last week I had a total brain lapse and when I was prompted on whether I wanted to retrieve the draft I pressed cancel instead of yes. Doh! Sometimes I copy/paste the text onto a text document just in case but apparently I didn't in this case.
So this time around to avoid any accidental stupidity on my part I'm simply going to post this list of Vividcon recs and I'll add thoughts later on.
I've compiled this list from the helpful postings at the [community profile] vividcon community.
TrueMyth over at the X-Files TWOP forum posted a link to this and I simply had to share here. It's a deleted scene from The X-Files pilot and I swear this looks news. It's got a baby Gillian Anderson (24 years old) as Scully lecturing students at the FBI Academy in Quantico. She is so cute but her students look older than she is. I must check my DVDs.
Another holdover from the IWTB press is this anecdote from British comedian and Shaun of the Dead actor Simon Pegg's blog. Pegg appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman the same day Gillian did.
Got into the Bowery Hotel, showered, went out and bought a shirt, met up with my friend Tony, then went to The Ed Sullivan Theatre. Got to my dressing room to find a message from Gillian Anderson scrawled on my mirror in lipstick: PEGG - I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'RE NOT COMING TO MY FILM. DIE SCUMBAG!!! - DANA. I was supposed to be going to the X-Files premiere when I got home but couldn't go because we had friends from LA getting in that day for Nick's wedding on Friday.
To quote Mulder in "Bad Blood", "Dana!?" How hilarious is she. I guess taken out of context it seems downright rude but this is so Gillian. Simon Pegg stared in the cult British series Spaced back in the late 90s and his character had a well documented crush on Gillian and Scully. He also happens to be a big fan of the show.  Flashforward a couple of years later and Pegg is sharing scenes with Gillian in How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, which is due out in October. Someone lets Gillian know about the history between Pegg and her XF alter ego and it's all embarrassing, awkward, and very funny. Gillian's ribbing is extended fun from their time on the movie together.
In other fandom bits, Cutthroat Business one of my Forever Knight stories has been nominated in two categories over at the [profile] forsaken_fandom awards. That is way cool. A great big thanks to the person who nominated me.
I almost bought the Gossip Girl DVD yesterday but I held off. I'm still trying to decide on which X-Files iPod to get so I'm keeping my wallet closed as much as possible.
~~~
And lastly, CW  has yet to release any promotional material for Smallville. It was rumored by people in the know that images were going to be released this week but they didn't. Come one CW! It's been too long since I've seen new Smallville stuff and the premiere is September 18th .

abby82: (Whoa!)
I've been browsing a couple of journals and f-lists and I've noticed quite a proliferation of femslash posts. Apparently Saturday was International Day of Femslash and I missed it. I'm not really a slasher but I have been known to enjoy the occasional femslash offering. So in albeit late honor of the event, here are a few of the femslash fan creations that I've really enjoyed. A handful are explicit but most are very subtle and merely suggest.

Forever Knight

[fic] What Makes a Mortal Interesting by [profile] dknightshade

I could probably count on one hand the number of FK femslash fics I've come across. So it was rather unchartered territory when I came across this particular story and the suggestion of potential Natalie/Janette in the wake of  "A More Permanent Hell." The sensuality and fluidity of Janette's gestures are perfectly captured, as is Natalie's fascination with the world of the vampire. It's a great read which builds wonderfully, for me anyway, from the delicious amount of tension between the two women from earlier in the season in "Faithful Followers".

[fic] untitled crossover, Kate/Fleur by [personal profile] havocthecat

I'm unfamiliar with Stargate: Atlantis but I am aware that actress Claire Rankin, who played Fleur on FK, played a a recurring character on the series. Given the different natures of the characters' time, at first glance a crossover seemed unlikely but the premise is really inspired. The details in this story are wonderful and anything that further explores Fleur is always much appreciated. This story doesn't disappoint.

Gossip Girl

[fic] Guilt by Association by [profile] gespawcho

This is just hot. Plain and simple. I love the glimpses of S and B in the future.

[fic] In Bloom by [profile] jengrrrl

This is Blair and Serena the girlfriends, not the enemies. Everything between them is so casual and seemingly effortless even as Blair begins to embrace Serena's penchant for spontaneity.

[fic] Shed by [profile] jengrrrl

So much perfection in so few words.

She-Ra

[fic]The First Kiss by [personal profile] pervyficgirl

This story isn't long but it's potent. I love how through the different encounters Adora has had with the women in the Rebellion, it is simultaneously telling us the story of their quest for freedom. It's both beautiful and bittersweet.

[fic]The Death of Myth-making by [profile] jengrrrl

It's hard to pinpoint what exactly it is about this story that I adore. The Masters of the Universe world has the misfortune of being mostly remembered as an 80s cartoon and therefore given very little regard. This story gives the reader a disciplined, complex view of the Horde, Etheria and all the characters that inhabit it. This story is a prime example of what the fandom, at its finest, can produce.

Smallville

[vid] Faster Kill Pussycat by [personal profile] talitha78

I've mentioned that I'm not much of a slasher but this video really made me sit up and take notice. I love everything about it. The song choice is wonderfully pulsating and sexy and the clip selection and editing compliment each other perfectly. Also available to stream at youtube

[fic] Seule et Amoureuse by [personal profile] mskatej

One thing about Smallville fandom is that there isn't much Lana fic. Sure there's Clana and Lexana fic or stories in which Lana is Clark's whiny girlfriend or the scorned ex. However stories in which Lana is the main protagonist are sorely lacking.  Then along comes [personal profile] mskatej with this sexy, provocative, and insightful character study through porn. Every encounter tells us more about the person Lana is, not the person people choose to see her as. This is a highly recommended read. It's also one of my all time favorite Smallville fics.
abby82: (I approve!)
I finished the first draft of my Forever Knight Schanke vid. Yay me! It clocks in at 3 minutes and 20 seconds although I see it fluctuating 10-15 seconds in either direction. I cut the song down from 5 minutes 56 seconds and while I'm OK with the way the song ends I'm gonna see if I can try splicing it so that I can incorporate the song's original ending. I really don't think it'll go well but I'll give it the ol' college try.

~~~~
I've almost finished my second go at the Forever Knight Nick/Nat fic from [personal profile] oxoniensis' porn battle back in January. Hopefully this time I don't leave my betas scratching their heads like I did back in February. And hey, the July porn battle is almost among us.
~~~

I was going through the print outs of all my in-the-works fic and surprise of surprises, it turns out that I wrote out a good chunk of my Journalism! Clark Smallville story but never included the additions to my computer file of the fic. What a pleasant surprise. Maybe there's hope for that fic yet.

~~~
Spoilers for season 8 of Smallville sound very promising, especially on the Clark front
~~~

Aren't they awesome? The promo comes courtesy of philater

This isn't really fandom but apparently an almost complete version of Fritz Lang's Metropolis has been found in an archive in Buenos Aires. With the exception of one scene the film is in its entirety. That's absolutely amazing and a wonderful discovery for all cinephiles.

I whipped up a fic banner for my Forever Knight/Smallville crossover fic "What Would Happen". There's actually two versions. For the longest time I tried maniping an image of Tom Welling as Clark Kent alongside an image I have of Catherine Disher from a guest stint on Friday the 13th: The Series. However that never quite turned out well. Then Smallville kindly obliged by having Welling's Clark dress up as his future iconic self in the alternate future episode "Apocalypse". It would be criminal to have a fic with Clark and not have his handsome mug on the cover in some way. However there's still something not quite right about the positioning of his image. Unfortunately photoshop has decided to turn against me and for some reason I can't move any of my layers. Oh well, later when I'm not so tired I'll at least get the text off his face, lol. For now this'll do. That's why I'm primarily sticking to the Clark-less cover.

I've already added one to the appropriate post but I thought I'd give them their own post as well.

The DVD release date for Life has been set for September 2. This sucker is totally priced to own with a SRP of $29.98 so I'm figuring a store price of around $25. Perhaps the price per episode comes out a bit high but if I enjoy this show as much as I'm anticipating who cares. Hopefully all the music remains intact but with its low SRP I have my doubts.  Hopefully they're unfounded because one of the biggest selling points for me about Life is its killer soundtrack.

~~~~~~~
The DVD release date for Smallville season 7 has been set for the following week on September 9th. I'm both excited and scared for that release. There are certain episodes that I'm very excited to see but I'm really not looking forward to the Lois/Grant story arc that pretty much went no where and has given Lois naysayers yet another reason to trash her. I understand what it's purpose was for but from what I gather from other fans the execution was quite lacking.
~~~~~~~~

The season 2 DVDs of Torchwood have also been announced for September 16. Nice cover but way out of my price range. It's the same reason why I haven't even thought about purchasing the 1st season, which I've yet to watch. I've enjoyed the show but not enough to pay that much for 13 episodes.

abby82: (Whoa!)
When it comes to new TV shows I tend to have this rule. I rarely watch a series in its first outing and it isn't until a second or third season that I check out shows that had struck me as interesting and have somehow managed to make it through the network television gauntlet.

The X-Files--middle of its 5th season.
Smallville--middle of its 5th season.
Supernatural--reruns of the 1st season in preparation for season 2.
Six Feet Under--3rd season
Ally McBeal--3rd season
Roswell--2nd season
Homicide: Life on the Streets--4th season
Gilmore Girls --6th season
Veronica Mars--3rd season

Of course there are exceptions to that rule. I was there for the very beginnings of Deadwood and Rome (both on HBO), Friday Night Lights on NBC, Millennium on Fox, and this season's Damages on FX. However as a general rule and as a means of protecting myself from getting too attached to a series that probably won't even make it past their 3rd episode, I generally choose to stay away. Sure I follow the media buzz surrounding those shows that I'm interested in but I always stay a safe distance away. Pre-launch buzz doesn't always translate into ratings. Can you say Bionic Woman, because I can.

However this season I deviated from the very plan that had always worked so well for me. My theory is that the shows that appealed to me reminded me of shows that are near and dear to my heart.

abby82: (Default)
I've been feeling a little under the weather so the Internet really has no interest for me right now but in the process of quickly checking up online I came across a new multi fandom drabble-a-thon. It's entitled, "Because We Are Awesome" and it's being hosted by [personal profile] medie.

I've received most of my fic inspiration from fic challenges, especially where Forever Knight is concerned. I just have trouble completing most of them in time. After all if someone out there in livejournal-land has been kind enough to remember FK in their fic prompts it would be poor manners to not oblige them.

This time around, however, I've decided to throw in a few of my own prompts. I posted two separate times and they're mostly Forever Knight and Smallville prompts but I've also thrown in a few other fandoms. There's a multitude of fandoms being represented so there should be something for everyone.

abby82: (Whoa!)
I've been away from the computer for a bit so I've been neglectful of the LJ and the comments which I do plan on getting to. I'm not ignoring anyone.

~~~~~~~~~
I uploaded my first vid file online. The TV Guide Channel was running a special on returning favorites and they had a small segment featuring some behind the scene stuff for Smallville's 150th episode "Apocalypse".
~~~~~~~~

I finally have a much better title for my Forever Knight pre-series fic featuring a young Natalie and Richard Lambert.

~~~~~~~~~
I've managed to vid the opening 25 seconds for my Schanke Forever Knight fanvid.
~~~~~~~~~~~

The deadline to post my fandom pimp over at [community profile] smallfandomfest is fast approaching. I signed up back in February to pimp Forever Knight and I want to do the fandom justice.

~~~~~~~~~
I'm still having trouble posting to the FK Fan Fic Yahoo Group.
~~~~~~~

I've been working on "Flight of the Imagination" again. I sent it out for beta back in mid February but boy did I get a shock to the system. Both betas were rather confused by it. I couldn't quite understand why until suddenly it hit me between the eyes.
~~~~~~~
I got an article printed in the local paper. It was really more PR than journalism. What wasn't in the article  would make a good follow up story. My name wasn't attached to it even though my boss wanted for people to know that I wrote it.
