It looks like Mads Mikkelsen is in talks to play the villain in the the Chaos Walking YA movie adaptation with Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland.

One one had it's got a great director in Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Edge of Tomorrow) with a pair of solid young leads, but on the other hand there's been some definite YA fatigue. I loved The Hunger Games movies. I went to see the first one completely blind and came out a total fan. I read all three books in one week and threw myself head first into the fandom and the fic. It's why I got a Tumblr. I know people point to the splitting of Mockingjay as a cash grab and part of the reason why people tired of YA movies but I loved those last two movies so much.

It's another villain role for Mads. Gosh darn it Mads! American audiences are never going to stop seeing you as a villain if all your English language roles are bad guys. However, Wikipedia describes his character Mayor Prentiss as "the mastermind behind the takeover, and later becomes self-proclaimed President of New World. He is extremely charismatic and manipulative, often choosing to play mind games instead of resorting to brute force. He learns to control his Noise, and can even use it as a weapon. Despite his cruelties, a running theme throughout the trilogy is whether or not he can be redeemed". That sounds pretty complex and Mads is no stranger to manipulative and charismatic characters. It's totally in his wheelhouse and he always plays those roles with great aplomb.

A high percentage of Mads' characters die in their movies. Chaos Walking is based on a trilogy of books and apparently Mayor Prentiss is in all three of them. So if the movies do well enough least we can count on three movies with Mads playing a significant role. And watching Mads' pretty, pretty face on the big screen is always such a delight.

I have no idea how big the role is. All I keep thinking is Donald Sutherland's role in The Hunger Games for reference, but something tells me the role might be bigger. Filming starts before the end of the summer and will likely go on for about 3 months in Montreal. I know some people were starting to wonder about a conflict with any potential Hannibal season 4. If the gods smile down on us I think the best case scenario for season 4 will be that it won't get started until late summer or early fall in 2018. By then season 2 of Bryan Fuller's American Gods should be wrapped. I think Daisy Ridley's schedule on the final Star Wars movie will inform when the second Chaos Walking movie will go into production. I don't think it should conflict with the Fall of 2018. And even if there's a slight overlap with Mads' schedule, Hannibal films in Toronto which is obviously only a hop, skip and a jump away from Montreal. Now if we do get some location shooting in Buenos Aires or if they can swing Cuba, well then that's something both productions are going to have to negotiate schedule wise.

I'm happy Mads is working again. After the huge promotional obligations he had for Rogue One and Doctor Strange he deserved some major time off. I just don't want to read another trilogy of books. I remember coming across the premise of the series and it struck me as pretty ridiculous. However people whose opinions I trusted would rave about the books on Tumblr. Then Doug Liman got involved and Charlie Kaufman for the screenplay I started to wonder if there was something there. I seriously don't want another obsession but I desperately want to know more about Mads' character. The character sounds interesting but boy does that premise sound hokey.

Mads has a history of picking some really interesting projects. That's one thing I've really appreciated as I've delved into his back catalog. I also think he and Tom Holland are going to get along famously. They're both former dancers with gymnastics backgrounds and their energy levels are both off the charts. The promotional tour is going to be bursting with cuteness. I can feel it in my bones.

Guess who found her missing Forever Knight DVDs? :::waves hand in air::

I was talking to my brother about how they'd completely fallen off the face of the earth and he oh so nonchalantly mentioned that he had them.

Um...why and how?

Apparently, many, many years ago he wanted to properly sit down and watch The X-Files. I of course have the DVDs so he borrowed them from me.

He said I kicked up a fuss about letting him borrow the actual boxset of XF seasons 1 & 2 (hey, they're fragile and back when I bought them a "sale" was $50) so I told him that he could borrow one of my DVD sleeves with the discs inside. He took the opportunity to go "shopping" in my DVD collection and loaded up with other shows he wanted to watch. That sleeve had all three seasons of Forever Knight, the first two of The X-Files, season 1 of Millennium, season 1 of Heroes, and season 1 of Batman the Animated Series. That's a whole lot of shows that went AWOL. Now he didn't actually want to watch FK but the discs were already in the sleeve so he left them in rather than remove them.

The reason I had no memory of this was because with my blessing he loaded up while I was at work. Still, they were missing for YEARS and I never noticed.

Nevertheless, my pretties are back in my possession. Series rewatch here I come!

Dare I hope for some fic inspiration like back in the good old days.

summary: Nick and Natalie celebrate Canada Day...sort of

The air outside is warm and the view of the harbor from the roof of his building is unobstructed. Recently building contractors have been sniffing around looking for prime real estate to develop and for the moment the neighborhood is devoid of construction cranes and makeshift protected sidewalks. Now if only Natalie would decide to grace him with her presence. She’s on night shift rotation again and Nick is hoping that she’s able to trade off the rest of her shift before tonight’s festivities begin.

The sound of the garage opening down below announces Natalie’s arrival home as Nick takes another sip from his beer. Wine just doesn’t seem appropriate for a summer night outside with the woman he loves and a Canada Day light show compliments of the city of Toronto. It’ll only be a matter of minutes before she finds his note downstairs alerting her to his whereabouts. The minutes tick by slowly for Nick before the rooftop door finally opens and she emerges still dressed from work but also bearing a bowl of popcorn.

“You made it,” Nick says, stating the obvious.

Today's the two year anniversary of the Hannibal season 3 premiere.

Season 3 is the season of Hannibal that I both adore and get frustrated by. It's split into two parts that were originally meant to be two separate seasons. The first half is 7 episodes of the Italy/Hannibal on the run arc and the last 6 episodes are dedicated to a retelling of the first Thomas Harris novel 'Red Dragon'. That features Hannibal behind bars and institutionalized at the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane.

During season 2 Bryan Fuller saw the writing on the wall. The show's ratings were not good and financially they couldn't swing the budget to film extensively in Europe like they originally intended. So, he combined seasons 3 and 4 of his 7 season plan and made it into a 6 season plan.

The first 7 episodes of the Italy arc are visually stunning. Season 3 ups the ante in such a bold way that it was bound to alienate some of its viewers. Bryan Fuller told his directors, "make the most pretentious art film of your dreams" and boy did they. It's a dark fairy tale filled with bloody nightmare imagery. Half the time you had no idea if what you were watching was a dream sequence or actually happening.

Unfortunately, the limited episodes short changed some of the characters, both new and old, and their storylines. Early versions of the scripts and the episode commentaries done by Bryan Fuller and his group of writers hinted to storylines that were cut due to time constraints during filming and within the episodes themselves. Some detractors of the Italy arc blame the slow pacing for the poor development of new characters. I personally loved the pacing and felt the show earned it. I blame the limited episodes. The Italy arc could have benefited from one or two more episodes. The Red Dragon arc definitely needed at least one episode to touch upon Will's state after Hannibal was arrested.
